Qoder

Alibaba's agentic IDE. Quest Mode takes a whole task from planning to verification, and Repo Wiki lets it remember your entire repository.

Good for

  • Handing off whole tasks like "implement this feature" and reviewing only at key points
  • Taking over an unfamiliar or poorly documented repository and understanding its structure quickly
  • Using the same tool across a standalone IDE, a JetBrains plugin, and the command line

Not for

  • Line-by-line completion and small edits (Cursor's completion is more mature)
  • Teams that need tightly controlled costs should measure usage during the trial first

Qoder is an AI coding platform from Alibaba. It entered public preview in August 2025 and shipped 1.0 for Windows, macOS, and Linux in May 2026. Besides the standalone IDE, it is available as a JetBrains plugin and a CLI.

Why it is also a top pick

Cursor is best at writing with you; Qoder is best at finishing a whole chunk for you. They play different roles, so we recommend both:

  • Quest Mode. Give it a coarse-grained request and the agent writes a spec, plans, implements across files, verifies its own work, and reports the changes. Your role moves from line-by-line guidance to reviewing progress and steering.
  • Agent Mode. You can also make small conversational edits like in any AI IDE, with checkpoints to roll back changes you do not like.
  • Repo Wiki. It analyzes the whole repository and keeps its structure and design intent as a wiki across sessions, so you do not have to re-explain the architecture of a large project every time.

Trade-offs to know

  • The longer it runs alone, the more review matters. Quest Mode suits well-bounded tasks. With vague requirements it fills gaps with common patterns that may not be what you want. Write the spec clearly first (see the souvenir).
  • Credit-based pricing. Consumption varies a lot between tasks, so measure it on your own project during the trial before committing.

Getting started

Download the IDE, open your project, generate the Repo Wiki first, then give Quest Mode a small but complete task and check whether its spec and report match what you expected.

# Quest spec

## Goal
One sentence on what to build and why.

## Scope
- In scope: <list concrete features>
- Out of scope: <explicit exclusions, so the agent does not expand the task>

## Constraints
- Only change these folders: <paths>
- No new dependencies; if one is truly needed, stop and explain why
- Follow the conventions in AGENTS.md at the repository root

## Acceptance criteria
- [ ] <observable result 1>
- [ ] <observable result 2>
- [ ] `pnpm check` passes and new behavior has tests

## Stop and ask me when
- The request conflicts with existing code
- You need to change a public interface or data structure, or delete files
